Made it to Pichilemu! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡±

¡Hola! πŸ¦‹ (Excuse the big gaps in this post. I couldn't get them to go away!)

I arrived safely to Pichilemu around 2:30 p.m. their time, and 10:30 a.m. for my body’s time. The flight from L.A. to Santiago took about 15 hours! (We left at 4:05 p.m. and got to Chile at 6:30 a.m. the next day 2:30 a.m. our time. So all in all, from leaving my house to arriving in Pichilemu, it took about 28 hours!

Then (due to traffic) we had to wait a long time for Mitch and John to come and get us and all our stuff.

They didn't bring her in the suitcase, but she does fit inside!

We stopped at a restaurant that serves Comida Tipica (Typical Chilean Food) for almuerzo (lunch) in Litueche on the way to Pichilemu.

I am staying in a nice dormitory-style room with 2 bunk beds, a mini kitchen, and a small bathroom, and a separate shower room. For now, I am alone. Another woman with our team should be arriving on Friday evening. The room even has an ocean view if I climb the bunk bed ladder to look out the window!

After unpacking, I wet across the street to visit a YWAM staff member, Susana. We had a good, long talk. Then. I walked to visit a friend, Ruth Jerez, who loaned me some bedding and towels. I got lost trying to find her house, but finally found it! We had a nice visit, and she served me tea and a sandwich. I missed the Barbecue that the team had for dinner outside until it started raining. Ruth’s son Andres drove me back to the YWAM base since it was raining. I went to bed after 11 p.m. Chile time (only 7 p.m. California time), and I didn’t awaken until 8:10 a.m. today.

I got up and went to Baile Entretenido (Entertaining Dance) which is like Zumba, at the Pura Vida Sports Complex. On of the main ministry focuses of  YWAM Pichilemu is Sports Ministry. They have a building with fitness equipment and fitness class studios, and they have a large indoor swimming pool with a hot tub and a gymnasium. (It’s a lot like the YMCA.) After the class, I had breakfast with the team in the Dining Area of the Sports Complex.

Then we went to work. The three projects we are working on are pouring concrete for a Skate Park, painting and old bus that is eventually going to become a coffee shop at the Skate Park, and completing the locker rooms of the gymnasium. My project today was sweeping all the dirt and rocks off of a large 30’ x 30’ concrete slab so we can pour a new concrete slab over it. I swept for about 5 hours, and, yes, I have a blister!

For dinner we walked to town and bought empanadas made to order at a restaurant near Parque Ross.
